Social Studies

It's Heritage Fair time once again! - Students are asked to begin thinking about what topic they will be doing this year's project on and to gather materials required. Run out and get your presentation boards while they are still available. All of my Social Studies classes will have time in the computer lab next and much time will be saved if students already know what their topic is going to be. Here is a list of ideas that would be suitable:

Chapter 4 - A Place to Live

Test on this section will be held during the week of February 4th. Students will also be responsible for information from the articles about the Northern Gateway Pipeline and 7 Billion and Counting. 8A, 8B and 8D will all write their tests on Friday, February 8th. 8C will write their test on Monday, February 11th.

Also, of great importance is being able to correctly label all provinces, territories, and their capital cities, on a map of Canada. Below is a blank map you can practice on and a completed political map that you can study from.

Language Arts - 8A & 8D

New spelling list for Week of December 3rd.
Both 8A and 8D will have a prequiz on Thursday, Dec. 6.
8D will write the test on Friday, Dec. 7th.
8A will write the test on Monday, Dec. 10th.
Both classes will write a quiz on Thursday, November 8th on Prefixes, Suffixes, and Capitalization.
We have been working on a Novel Study over the past few weeks and will continue for another couple of weeks. Both classes will be expected to complete a Summarizer role sheet by Friday, November 9th for their most recent assigned section of the novel.

There are still some students who have not yet passed in their personal memoir assignment. Please ensure these are completed and passed in ASAP. *
We are currently working on personal memoirs. The good copy of your memoir is due on Tuesday, September 24th for 8D and Wednesday, September 25th for 8A. Please remember that you are required to pass in your completed Graphic Organizer, your draft copy, and your rubric along with your good copy. Good copy must be written on looseleaf, double-spaced and in ink, or you may type your good copy.
